The Phoenix Suns – who have the worst record in the NBA this season – came within 0.3 seconds of beating the league’s top side the Houston Rockets.

The Suns’ Josh Jackson scored a jumper with 1.4 seconds left to put the side 103-101 up and in reach of their 20th win of the season.

But Houston, already assured of playoff basketball as champions of the Western Conference, completed a 21-point comeback and saw a 23-foot jumper from Gerald Green beat the buzzer as the Rockets took the game 104-103.

Green had 18 points on the night with James Harden scoring 28 and having 10 assists.

LeBron James wrote his name into the record books on Friday night – scoring at least 10 points for the 867th consecutive game to beat the record he shared with Michael Jordan.

James had 27 points and made 12 from 24 field goals as the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the New Orleans Pelicans 107-102.

The Oklahoma City Thunder took the Denver Nuggets to overtime but went down 126-125, Paul Millsap scoring 36 points and nine rebounds, while the Minnesota Timberwolves also edged past the Dallas Mavericks by one point in a 93-92 win.

Ben Simmons had a triple-double (13 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists) as the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Atlanta Hawks 101-91, while the Chicago Bulls beat the Orlando Magic 90-82.

The Utah Jazz beat the Memphis Grizzlies 107-97, the Portland Trail Blazers held back a resurgent LA Clippers to win 105-96 and the LA Lakers took the Milwaukee Bucks to overtime but lost 124-122.
