Manchester United maintained their grip on second place in the Premier League thanks to a comfortable 2-0 win over Swansea City at Old Trafford.

Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez will grab the headlines after scoring the goals, but David de Gea provided yet another reminder of what a sensational goalkeeper he really has become.

Since joining United from Atletico Madrid as a talented but nervy shot-stopper back in 2011, De Gea has played 307 times for the club and transformed into a true world-class star.

Swansea offered very little in the first half on Saturday and only recorded three shots in the whole match, but that didn't stop De Gea from proving his worth once more.

They say the sign of a great goalkeeper is the ability to make key saves when you've had next to nothing to do during a match - and the Spaniard did exactly that in quite brilliant fashion.

Dave Saves... Again

In the 59th-minute, with the score at 2-0, Swansea launched a rare attack, with Tom Carroll playing it to Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham, who managed to get away from Victor Lindelof.

However, as shown in the video below, the Englishman's powerful strike was superbly saved by De Gea, who sparked into action despite being a spectator for much of the contest.

If that wasn't enough, mere seconds later, De Gea produced another fine diving effort down to his left to deny Abraham's first-time volley, and Man United loved it.

Man Utd's tweet about De Gea

In addition to labelling De Gea's saves as "unbelievable", United's official Twitter account had no hesitation in calling the club's number one the best 'keeper in the world.

Jesse Lingard started the 2-0 win in the number ten role and even he had to praise De Gea when he tweeted after the game, as you can see below:

Despite the many accolades he's earned in recent years, De Gea is still yet to win the Premier League Golden Glove award for highest number of clean sheets.

As we approach the final few games of the 2017-18 campaign, Spain's number one currently leads the way, having kept 16 clean sheets in England's top-flight thus far.
