When Liverpool spent a club-record £36 million on Mohamed Salah last summer, there were a few raised eyebrows. While the Egyptian may have imposed in Italy during the previous few seasons, he really struggled whilst at Chelsea earlier in his career. Was he really capable of producing the goods in the Premier League?Well, Salah has certainly answered those doubts. On Saturday, he grabbed his 37th goal of this incredible season, bagging a late winner for Liverpool against Crystal Palace. But it’s not just in Liverpool than Salah has become a king. He’s a hero in his native country, proved by the fact that he received loads of votes in the recent elections.

WHAT SALAH DID IN OCTOBER WAS A 'GAME-CHANGER'

Of course, what he did in October explains why he’s loved so much in Egypt.

The Egyptian national side needed to beat Congo to qualify for their first World Cup since 1990. And they were given the chance to do just that when they were awarded a penalty in the 93rd-minute.

Salah stepped up and sent the whole country into celebration.

It was an incredible moment and his Liverpool boss believes that it was a “game-changer” in Salah’s season.

JURGEN KLOPP ON SALAH'S EGYPT HEROICS

Before that, Salah had ‘only’ scored six goals in his 11 Liverpool appearances. But since scoring that penalty to send Egypt to the World Cup, he’s bagged 32 goals in 32 matches.

And Jurgen Klopp thinks that goal might have something to do with Salah’s incredible form.

“The best thing was how they celebrated getting the penalty,” said Klopp,

“I’ve never seen that in my life. Germany in 1990 didn’t celebrate winning the World Cup like this. And they only got the penalty – then they thought ‘Someone actually has to shoot’. That was real pressure.

“That’s why he got the next penalty at Liverpool – and he missed it. That was not too good.

“But we all have these game-changer moments in our life and maybe that was one of his. If you deliver in a situation like this, this is what can happen to you.”

Salah’s goals have seen Liverpool all but secure a top-four finish as they sit 10 points ahead of fifth-placed Chelsea having played one match more. They’re also in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, where they face Manchester City.

With the momentum and form Salah has right now, you simply can’t bet against him producing another one of those ‘game-changing’ moments to lead Liverpool to a sixth Champions League title.
