Jordan Spieth showed there is more than one way to get beyond a water hazard with an audacious exhibition shot as he warmed up for this week’s Masters.Stood on the edge of the pond on the 16th hole, the world number four delighted onlookers by skimming his ball across the water and on to the green in practice at Augusta. The American is highly unlikely to attempt the daring feat when the tournament gets under way on Thursday, with the water proving his nemesis two years ago.Spieth was firmly in contention to win a second successive green jacket heading into the back nine of his final round, only to hit two balls into water on the par-three 12th as he carded a quadruple bogey. He eventually finished three shots behind champion Danny Willett. With just a few days to go before the action at Augusta gets properly underway, Spieth is being heavily backed by the bookies, along with Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas. And you can't blame them if the American is in the kind of form where he can make trick shots like this look so effortless.

Augusta’s 16th hole, named Redbud, was made famous in 2005 when Tiger Woods chipped on to the green and his ball dramatically rolled into the hole after initially appearing to rest on the edge.

Woods would go on to clinch his fourth Masters crown, the last time he triumphed at Augusta, although he is among the favourites this year.

In his last three tournaments, the 42-year-old has finished 12th, second and fifth, with plenty of promising signs of his former dominant self on show to suggest he could well be in contention this week too.

The prospect of a potential Spieth vs Woods battle on the final day of the Masters would be something very special...
