You'll struggle to find a football fan in England that isn't excited for Liverpool v Manchester City.

While it's something of a shame that only one Premier League team will reach the Champions League's final four, quarter-final games don't come much lucrative than this. Based on their last league meeting, too, there should be no shortage of entertainment.

On paper, it looks like a tie for City to lose with Pep Guardiola's men sitting a hearty 19 points above the Reds in the Premier League table.

Their sole defeat in their league campaign this season, though, came at Anfield - a stadium they'll have to return to and perform well at to keep their European hopes alive.

Nevertheless, a knockout competition suits Jurgen Klopp's men perfectly and it seems they're the perfect team to draw and thwart the Citizens.

Lampard previews Liverpool v Manchester City

In the run-up to the blockbuster clash, BT Sport pundit Frank Lampard has addressed the game as part of his column in the Evening Standard.

He had plenty of words of praise for Liverpool, yet ultimately believes City will pull through and qualify across two legs, stating: "I fancy Manchester City to progress over two games. They have the quality. It is hard enough beating them once, as Liverpool already have, but twice is so difficult.

"Playing over two legs is harder, it brings a different element to it. Concentration levels and the ability to sustain it over a minimum 180 minutes becomes even more important."

Lampard worried about Sane vs Alexander-Arnold

Furthermore, Lampard thought there was a certain area that Guardiola's men could expose and that lies with role of Leroy Sane who even compared to Ryan Giggs.

He believes the German will be key on the left wing and, in particular, at exploiting Liverpool's Achille's heel in recent weeks - the right flank of their defence.

"There are so many factors in the first leg on Wednesday night but I will be interested to see who plays up against Sane at right-back for Liverpool," Lampard continued.

"In their recent games against Manchester United and Crystal Palace, there has been a question mark defensively on Liverpool’s right side. It will probably be Trent Alexander-Arnold, although Nathaniel Clyne is fit again after a long spell out through injury.

"This is a big area for City to target and I would bring David Silva in there as well — they will look at the space around Liverpool’s right centre-back and full-back."

Only time will tell how Alexander-Arnold or perhaps Clyne will fare, but most fans backing Liverpool are expecting them to simply outscore their opponents anyway so it's still almost impossible to call.

What a clash it promises to be.
