Back in December 2016, Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors scored 60 points in just 29 minutes against the Indiana Pacers in what was eventually recognized as the 2016-17 NBA Performance of the Year.

It was one of only a few times since Kevin Durant's arrival at the Warriors that Thompson has managed to shine on the court. What makes this story even better, however, is what the shooting guard was doing prior to the big performance.

Speaking on the Bill Simmons Podcast, Durant revealed what his teammate was doing prior to his epic game. He revealed that Thompson had actually missed practice the day before his 60-point game. The reason why he missed practice? He slept through it.

The Warriors star said, according to Uproxx: "Oh, so like the (day) before he had 60, Klay just missed practice. He didn’t come,” Durant said. “He just … nobody like, you know when practice starts, it was like, ‘Where the hell is Klay?’ We called him, called him, called him. He didn’t come to practice. He just like, just didn’t come. And the next night he had 60.”

“You still don’t know what happened?!” Simmons asked.

Durant replied: “Don’t know what happened. I think he said, like, ‘Man, I was an hour late, two hours late. I was like, I might as well just stay in bed.’ And he came out and had 60. I was like, this guy, if everybody in the world was like Klay the universe would be better.”

It's crazy to think that before such a big performance, Thompson wasn't reading through his playbook or practicing plays on the court with his teammates. Instead, he was dozing off and skipping practice. They do say sleep is very important, so maybe he was doing the right thing!

So far on this season, Thompson has averaged 19.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. His points average are down from last season, but he's still an affective player on the court for the Warriors.
