At one stage, not many would have thought that Ronda Rousey would ever be part of the active WWE roster. Now, we are five days away from her debut which just so happens to take place on the biggest platform possible.

There’s added pressure on Rousey at WrestleMania. Not just because her debut takes place at the Grandest Stage of Them All, but also because even non-wrestling fans are going to tune in to see how she fares after leaving the UFC and deciding to sign with Vince McMahon’s organisation.

DEBUT

Luckily for her, she’s not going to be thrown into a singles match where it’s sink or swim. Instead, she’s teaming up with fellow Olympian and Monday Night RAW general manager Kurt Angle to take on Stephanie McMahon and Triple H in a mixed tag team match.

So far, we have seen Rousey deliver her own variation of a Samoan Drop with it being claimed that it could be her finishing move. However, those who have followed her mixed martial arts career will know that her genuine strengths lie in submission holds, so an armbar is expected to be unveiled as her real finisher in New Orleans on Sunday night.

That was all but confirmed on Monday Night RAW this week during the opening Q&A segment featuring all four participants. While the headlines are revolving around Stephanie putting Rousey through a table to exact revenge from her contract signing, Angle claimed that Rousey is going to make Stephanie tap inside of the Superdome.

However, Ringside News have flagged up an interesting point Dave Meltzer reportedly made on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio.

According to the source, Meltzer speculated that it won’t be Stephanie who taps out to Rousey, but Triple H himself will be the one submitting to whichever hold Rousey applies - most likely her favoured armbar.

SUBMISSION

As the years have advanced, The Game knows who needs to go over and there’s no way that they’ll let Angle and Rousey lose, especially since it’s Rousey’s debut and Angle’s first WrestleMania in 12 years.

Obviously, the whole intergender aspect plays a part in it which means Triple H and Rousey, or Angle and Stephanie can’t put their hands on one another. That rule has gone out of the window slightly here, as Rousey has already attacked Triple H when she put him through a table and can be stretched back as far as WrestleMania 31 too.

However, it’s clear that if WWE truly wants mainstream attention from this, then having Triple H submit to Rousey instead of Stephanie - what many fans or critics wouldn’t class as shocking in the first place - would be the best way to generate that all-important buzz.

A win at WrestleMania in her debut alongside Angle, and submitting a legend like Triple H to do it? Not a bad way to make your debut.
