Celtic's midfield enforcer Scott Brown was back in the headlines on the weekend but this time, the Scotland international was most certainly the victim.

Brown was on the receiving end of a truly hideous and cowardly stamp from Ross County's Andrew Davies, a tackle which saw him deservedly shown a red card.

Amazingly, the Celtic hardman managed to complete the game and had it not been him on the receiving end of the act of violence, there would likely have been a lot more outcry after the game.

Bhoys manager Brendan Rodgers was rightly seething after the game, despite the fact Celtic had won 3-0, labelling the tackle "one of the worst he has ever seen".

In the wake of the incident, which occurred on Saturday, the talks seems to have centred around Brown's reputation as a player, rather than simply lamenting Davies' actions.

And Rodgers has gone on the defensive with regards to his captain, with a lot of his words really making sense.

"He's a player that, instead of being envious of, needs to be emulated in terms of his qualities," the boss said.

Rodgers then moved on to the topic of how the midfielder is criticised in the Scottish media.

"In the time I've been up here, there's been a lot of envy towards Scott Brown.

"I see it in certain media sectors. I see it in the playing sector and I see it in managers also.

"I think what rarely gets talked about is how good a player he is.

"I've been lucky enough to work in the English Championship, in the lower Premier League and at the top of the Premier League and this is a player who goes right in at the very top."

Rodgers then made an interesting comparison about Brown and a player he previously managed at Liverpool; Luis Suarez.

"Yes, he's one of those characters," the Celtic manager said. "I had it with Luis Suarez.

"Every ground he went to, Luis always got it because of his performance levels and Scott is the same."

He's made some very, very interesting points.
