If you’ve been keeping track, you know that the situation between Kawhi Leonard and the San Antonio Spurs has been confusing (to say the least). Now, Leonard is off in New York City away from his teammates in order to continue rehabbing his quad injury with his own group. Gregg Popovich recently made it clear that his future with the team this season is completely in Leonard's hands."I don't know when he's going to feel, he and his group are going to feel like they're ready to go. If I knew, he'd be here. When he and his group feel he's ready, he'll be ready,” Pop said, via the Associated Press."He's trying to get well," Popovich added. "Of course that's the purpose [of his stay in New York], to get well, that's what he's doing. That's what rehab is. He's up there going to Broadway shows and everything?”While it certainly looks like Leonard is erring on the side of caution since he’s eligible for a super-max extension in the summer, his inability to return to the club while they’re in the middle of a fight to get into the playoffs has caused a couple of his veteran teammates to deliver some interesting comments about him to the media.

Although Leonard, who finished in third place in MVP voting last season, is under contract in San Antonio through the end of next season, he is expected to capitalize in a big way based on the extension rules that went into effect after the recent collective bargaining agreement. Therefore, if he was to return and re-injure himself, he’d essentially be potentially gambling hundreds of millions of dollars in guaranteed money.

As multiple reputable sources have already reported, Leonard and the Spurs haven’t quite seen eye to eye regarding the entire situation. Therefore, the idea that he might have already played his last game in San Antonio has come up.

If that’s the case, a number of other teams around the league will be ready to pounce.

“I have already talked to several NBA general managers," said ESPN's Brian Windhorst on Outside the Lines on Monday, per RealGM. "At the end of this season, teams will call the Spurs and inquire about the availability of Kawhi Leonard.”

"Not that Windy needs any confirmation, ever, but this is 100% true. Vultures are circling, in hopes of action around the draft," ESPN’s Zach Lowe added on Twitter.

As perhaps the best two-way player in the NBA (when healthy), Leonard’s availability on the trade block would make the upcoming offseason even more exhilarating than it will already be.
