Cristiano Ronaldo has enjoyed one of the finest careers in the history of football, but even he must've been surprised at the heights he reached on Tuesday night v Juventus. The Portuguese superstar turned in yet another match-winning performance for Real Madrid in a crucial game, scoring twice in Turin to help Los Blancos record a mighty impressive 3-0 win over Juventus. His first was an expertly guided first time shot past Gianluigi Buffon with the outside of his boot, after some excellent work from Isco. But his second was what had the entire football world drooling, with Ronaldo scoring the most spectacular of bicycle kicks. It will go down as one of the finest goals ever seen and because it was so brilliant, a number of people may have forgotten that the 33-year-old broke yet another record in the Champions League. He became the first player to score in ten consecutive games, surpassing Ruud van Nistelrooy's record of nine for Manchester United. And the Dutchman was quick to show his admiration for Ronaldo's achievement, sending him a very classy congratulatory tweet.

Now, it may seem like quite a generic post, but the two players have a very negative history.

While at United together in 2006, the two were involved in a very heated altercation, one which resulted in Sir Alex Ferguson actually selling Van Nistelrooy.

"The United manager was not sure what was going to happen with Ruud van Nistelrooy," Ferguson's close friend Alistair Campbell revealed in his book.

"Very self-centred. The last straw was when he told Cristiano Ronaldo he had found a new dad in [assistant coach] Carlos [Queiroz} – just after Ronaldo’s dad, who was an alcoholic, had died.

“Carlos asked him to show respect and he said he didn’t respect anyone there.

“He later apologised but CR was not having it.

“Alex sent Van Nistelrooy home when he heard about it later. He was not sure what he was going to do with him.”

Not nice at all, so it was refreshing to see Van Nistelrooy send his tweet.

The Dutchman has now seen his two great records broken, with Jamie Vardy surpassing his Premier League goal record back in that famous 2015/16 season.

They really are there to be broken.
