UFC President Dana White has addressed the possibility of Floyd Mayweather Jr. fighting in the Octagon under the UFC banner.

The boxing legend and former champion may have some help with his transition from boxing to MMA.

It’s been well documented over the last few months by various media outlets that Mayweather Jr. has posted videos of him entering a cage.

At the same time, Showtime executive Stephen Espinoza has been using “MayweatherMMA” hashtags to complete the tease of Mayweather potentially fighting under the UFC banner inside of the Octagon.

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley noted during a recent segment on his Hollywood Beatdown show that he has talked with Mayweather about training together to prepare him for his potential move to MMA.

If you recall, leading into his first fight with Conor McGregor, Mayweather stated that this would serve as his retirement fight, which would leave him with a perfect 50-0 pro-boxing record.

If this fight does happen then it wouldn’t impact his boxing record but rather his MMA record.

The first boxing match between these fighters took place last August in Las Vegas, Nevada and aired live on PPV (pay-per-view) for the low price of $100 for HD and $90 for SD.

As seen in the fight, the UFC champion did show some good things in the ring considering that it was his first outing as a professional. However, he ultimately lost by TKO in the tenth round.

Although McGregor looked good in the first three rounds, he started getting tired as the fight went on. Even McGregor cited patches of fatigue that he needs to overcome.

He made it clear by admitting that going 12 rounds was always a challenge for him during training camp.

White appeared on “The Jim Rome Show” to talk about this actually happening. Here is what he had to say (transcript courtesy of MMAJunkie):

“I think yes (he could fight in the UFC),” White told host Jim Rome. “I didn’t think the first fight would happen with Mayweather. All I’d ever see was the stuff that went on with him and (Bob) Arum and how they couldn’t get the (Manny) Pacquiao fight done.

Then once I got in and started negotiating with these guys (and) they’re smart guys. They’re easy to deal with, and from what I thought it was going to be, it was much easier. So yeah, I could see this happening.”

“Anyone can get caught on any given day,” White said. “But I think (an MMA fight) goes very badly for him.”
