This Saturday, Khabib Nurmagomedov will face off against UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway for the UFC Lightweight Championship at UFC 223 inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. In order to make this fight for the Lightweight title, Dana White had to strip Conor McGregor of the title, as he has not defended it since defeating Eddie Alvarez for the title in the first place way back in November 2016.Although there is a good chance he could get an opportunity to win it back later this year, it comes as no surprise that Notorious is not happy that he has been stripped of the UFC Lightweight Championship.McGregor reacted to being stripped of the lightweight title on his Twitter account on Thursday, as he said: "You’s’ll strip me of nothing you’s do nothing c***s."He was obviously going to be unhappy about it, but he should have seen it coming since he hasn't defended the title for almost a year and a half. It will be interesting to see if he makes an appearance at UFC 223 this weekend to potentially challenge the winner of Khabib vs Holloway once their fight has finished and a new lightweight champion is crowned.

Ever since the original Khabib vs Tony Ferguson fight was announced, White has always stated that McGregor would be stripped of his title, and that didn't change when Holloway had to replace Ferguson in the fight due to injury.

The UFC President said at a press conference on Wednesday, according to JOE: “No interim champ. When this fight is over, champion, one of these guys will be the champion.”

“We’re not stripping Tony Ferguson (of the interim title). Tony Ferguson isn’t being stripped. The only person here who is losing a belt is Conor (McGregor). Conor’s losing the belt, these two are fighting for the belt.”

White also added that he was “100%” certain McGregor would return to UFC in 2018, saying: “Conor is coming back this year 100%. He will fight this year. We’ll see how this thing plays out and we’ll go from there.”

However, he wasn’t aware if Notorious would be attending UFC 223, only saying it would be “awesome” if he did show up. Guess we'll just have to wait until Saturday to find out for ourselves to see if he wants to set up a fight with the winner of Khabib vs Holloway later this year.
