Anthony Joshua has received a lucrative offer to leave current promoters Matchroom and join Oscar De La Hoya at Golden Boy with the promise of becoming a household name in the United States. The Watford man defeated Joseph Parker last week to clinch the 21st victory of his career in front of 80,000 fans in Cardiff. Having yet to suffer defeat in his 21-fight professional career, Joshua is currently a unified world heavyweight champion with the IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO titles to his name, with the last one coming as a result of the Parker victory on Saturday. Joshua's deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom runs out at the end of this year and he is yet to sign an extension to that contract. The highly lucrative US market could prove to be the next best move for the 28-year-old and could catapult the Brit to global fame and incredible wealth. Despite Hearn indicating that a deal extension might be close, former world champion De La Hoya insists that Joshua would be much better off in America. "If Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder want to become household names in the US of A and stop doing mediocre ratings on Showtime, call me and I’ll make you superstars in the beautiful USA", said De La Hoya.

De La Hoya's tweet angered plenty of UK-based Joshua fans, who feel there is no need for the biggest star in British boxing to make a name for himself across the pond when he can sell out stadiums with apparent ease at home.

To which De La Hoya responded by pointing out how much more money AJ could pick up by improving his profile in the States.

"I guess he’s fine making 15 million when he can make 40+," he posted.

Golden Boy's main fighter Canelo Alvarez, who recently failed a drug test halting his bid to face Gennady Golovkin, is currently earning $50m (£36m) per fight according to De La Hoya.

Joshua was not the only one to have been contacted as WBC champion Deontay Wilder has also been pursued by the agency following his $2.1m prize money against Luis Ortiz.

With Joshua and Wilder being prompted by supporters to face each other next to decide the undisputed world champion, a deal to secure either one of them would be very beneficial for Golden Boy.
