A 92st-minute own goal from Mathieu Debuchy prevented Paris Saint-Germain from losing to St Etienne last night. The runaway French leaders went 1-0 down in the 17th minute and there was more bad news when young defender Presnel Kimpembe was shown a second yellow card before half-time.Defeat for Unai Emery’s side wouldn’t have been tragic. It’s seemingly a matter of when, not if, they are crowned Ligue 1 champions. And according to ESPN, Emery will lose his job at the end of the season regardless of how the remaining weeks pan out, with German Thomas Tuchel the man who will apparently take his place. But still, if these are to be Emery’s final few matches in charge of PSG, he will want them to pass without too much hassle. So thankfully for him, Debuchy was caught out with little more than a minute remaining of last night’s fixture at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard."The first half was the worst we had played all season," Emery said afterwards, per AFP. "But I am happy with the way we reacted and for the work that we put in during the second half, we deserved a point."

What Mbappe did when St Etienne had a penalty

The game might have been out of PSG’s reach had Remy Cabella, who scored the opening goal, doubled St Etienne’s lead. The hosts were awarded a penalty in the first half but Cabella’s effort was saved by Alphonse Areola.

And Areola might have teammate Kylian Mbappe to thank, for replays showed the French striker telling the goalkeeper to dive to his right.

That’s exactly what Areola did, and he managed to keep Cabella’s effort out.

Quite what Mbappe saw from Cabella isn’t obvious.

It’s quite a brave choice for any player, though, to tell the ‘keeper which way to go when they can’t be 100 per sure themselves.

Fair play to Mbappe though, for this time it worked.

Areola will hope the 19-year-old’s trick works the next time he faces a penalty.

PSG hold a 17-point lead over second-placed Monaco, who host Nantes later today.

The French champions, who have been without Neymar since February due to injury, can wrap up the title by beating Les Monégasques next Sunday.
