Arsenal's 3-0 win over Stoke only told half the story.

The Potters put up a decent resistance before ultimately capitulating in the second half.

The scoreline won't have given Paul Lambert's side much confidence in their relegation run-in.

As for the Gunners, it's unlikely to make too much difference to their season, which is largely now dependent on success in the Europa League.

However, while their performance was underwhelming, they were much better in the 4-1 win over CSKA Moscow on Thursday night.

In both games, Alexandre Lacazette found the back of the net, which was a further positive. The summer signing's brace against the Russians will have done his confidence the world of good.

Few would have expected him to get on the scoresheet against Stoke, though simply because Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was on a hat-trick.

When Arsenal were awarded a penalty in the 89th minute, it seemed inevitable the former Borussia Dortmund man would pick up the ball.

It was a grand gesture from the Gabon man to let his team-mate take the spot-kick, though, and another indication that the two strikers can fit into the same line-up after all.

Aubameyang's promise

Explaining what happened before he scored Arsenal's third, Lacazette is quoted by the Telegraph:

"Auba is a nice guy. I think we can be good together.

"After the first penalty against Stoke, he told me, ‘If there is another one I will give you the ball’ so it was nice from him.

"It was good for my confidence. It shows that, even if we are strikers, we can think about everyone in the team and we are not focused only to score goals.

"I think we can play together like Sunday but the coach will decide and we need to respect the decision, but I like how Pierre plays and I think we can be good together."

You won't see Christian Benteke doing that any time soon.

Thanks to that little bit of assistance, Lacazette's tally for the campaign now stands at 12 in all competitions - probably not what Arsene Wenger was hoping for when he signed him for £52million, but it's still a bonus to see his form picking up towards the business end of the season.

Who will be a bigger hit in the long run - Lacazette or PEA? Have your say in the comments.
