Footballing legend Ronaldinho was asked to weigh in on the Messi-Ronaldo debate in Kuala Lumpur this weekend.

Incredibly, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 23 goals in his last 12 outings following a slow start to the 2017/18 campaign.

The 33-year-old Portuguese forward bagged two goals - including a Puskas Award contender - and an assist in Tuesday's 3-0 win over Juventus in the Champions League.

"It was probably the best goal of my career," Ronaldo told reporters after the game.

"The whole team great but of course people are now talking about my second goal - it was indeed a spectacular goal.

Barcelona - who also look certain to progress to the semi-finals - beat Roma 4-1 on Wednesday night but Leo Messi failed to get on the scoresheet.

The La Liga duo have won five Ballon d'Or's apiece and are widely regarded as two of the greatest to ever play the game.

Ronaldinho on... Cristiano Ronaldo or Leo Messi

Days after Ronaldo's Champions League heroics, Ronaldinho was asked to pick between Messi and the Portuguese star.

"Messi", replied the retired Brazilian legend, as per Goal.

"I would have loved to continue playing alongside him. I didn't get enough time with him, he was very young. I'd love to take to the pitch with him one more time."

Messi broke into the Barcelona first team during Ronaldinho's time at the Camp Nou and they spent three full seasons together before the skilful Brazilian moved to AC Milan in 2008.

"Everyone welcomed me into the dressing room, and [Ronaldinho] welcomed me in a spectacular way," said Messi previously.

"To go into that dressing room was not easy but he made it all so much easier. I was very comfortable by not only Ronnie's welcoming but everyone.

"Before leaving the club [Ronaldinho] was coming off a few months where he was thinking about things," Messi said.

"He had it in his mind that he was leaving and he told me to have his number. I took it without looking at what he had done with the shirt. If I did, I would not have taken it."

Good luck to whoever takes the number 10 shirt after Ronaldinho and Messi...
