The Merseyside derby is usually associated with some fiery football. However, on Saturday afternoon, Everton and Liverpool turned in a truly woeful 90 minutes of football at Goodison Park.Jurgen Klopp made a number of changes to his side after their 3-0 win over Manchester City, with Danny Ings, Dominic Solanke and Nathaniel Clyne all coming into the side.It should have given Everton some impetus to go on and take the game to the Reds, but Sam Allardyce's side were just slow and lethargic. The 0-0 scoreline perfectly reflected the game, with the Toffees' late push for a winner against a tired Liverpool side not enough to secure three points. There were very few moments of entertainment, but one that got a lot of football fans talking was Wayne Rooney's reaction to being subbed.England's record goal scorer had a torrid time in a deeper midfield role and was hooked very early in the second half for Idrissa Gana Gueye. And his response to Allaradyce's decision certainly wasn't pretty. He refused to shake the gaffer's hand and could be seen clearly shouting "it's b*****it".

You can understand his frustration at being taken off so early on his first Merseyside derby at Goodision after returning to the club, but it was probably the correct decision.

Rooney was the clear weak link in the side, with Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Gigi Wijnaldum running the midfield.

Nevertheless, some of Rooney's blushes were spared by Yannick Bolaise, who turned in one of the worst Premier League performances seen this season.

Clyne bossed him on this first game back from a serious injury, with the Congolese winger losing the ball regularly, resulting in Everton fans actually cheering when he was replaced by Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

After such a dismal, defensive display against a half-strength Liverpool side, the writing really is on the wall for Allardyce. A summer replacement beckons.
