This afternoon’s Manchester derby will go down in history if Pep Guardiola’s side prevail at the Etihad Stadium.

Man City will win the Premier League with a victory over their rivals in what would be a major one-up for the Citizens.

It’s like Arsenal winning the title against Tottenham in 2004. Man City supporters will never forget this day should they come out on top.

It probably won’t be a feisty affair, though. Just like the Merseyside derby which was played at lunchtime, one of these teams has an important European affair to focus on and therefore doesn’t want any drama.

Man City, who trail Liverpool 3-0 in their Champions League quarter-final tie, know that while winning the title by beating Man United would be sweet, there’s a much bigger match just three days away.

It explains why Guardiola named Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker on the bench.

But that hasn’t stopped Man United from revelling in the fun that derby day brings and they threw some shade at their opponents on Instagram before the match.

Man United fired shots at Man City

The Etihad Stadium is, of course, renowned for baring many empty seats during matches this season. According to The Sun, the champions elect have averaged nearly 10,000 empty seats for league matches at their home stadium this season.

And the Red Devils poked fun at this on Instagram. Check out their post.

Of course, Man City could have had the last night if they’re crowned champions later on this evening.

De Bruyne: If we win, we'll play music

Jose Mourinho was furious with Man City’s players for blaring music out of their dressing room following the 2-1 win over United at Old Trafford in December, but Kevin De Bruyne has told his former manager to suck it up.

Indeed, the speakers will be on full blast if City emerge victorious.

“You have to take it up, you know,” De Bruyne said this week, per the Telegraph.

“If you lose, you lose. You have take up that people mock you, that people do things on social media, say things about you.

“We put music on for us, not to do anything bad to other people. It’s our thing to relax and have fun, and if people take it that it’s bad for them then I’m sorry, but it’s just for us.

“I don’t think it’s disrespectful. It’s not to mock anybody.”
