Liverpool followed up their stunning 3-0 win over Manchester City with a 0-0 draw away to Everton in Saturday's Merseyside derby.

The gap to second-placed Manchester United, who have a game in hand, has widened to four points, but manager Jurgen Klopp understandably rung the changes at Goodison Park.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain rotated to the bench and starts were given to Ragnar Klavan, Dominic Solanke and long-term absentees Nathaniel Clyne and Danny Ings.

Two other regulars who were absent from Liverpool's starting XI at Everton were Premier League top scorer Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino - and it was evident.

Ahead of the Champions League second leg with Man City, Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has dropped the truth about what his former side look like when the attacking duo don't play.

What Robbie Fowler has said about Liverpool team

Fowler needs no introduction to Liverpool supporters, having scored 183 goals across two spells at the club, and he's revealed what concerns him when Firmino and Salah are missing.

The ex-striker has called out the team's lack of cutting edge and even compared them to a Primark suit, writing for The Mirror: "Without Mo Salah or Roberto Firmino...

"Liverpool are nowhere near sharp enough in the final third of the pitch. In fact, they were about as sharp as a Primark suit (at Everton). Klopp knows this lack of options is a real worry.

"All the top teams have strength in depth up front - I sometimes think Jose Mourinho at Man United is collecting forwards for his World Cup sticker album!"

The 42-year-old continued: "Liverpool have a front three (Salah, Firmino, Sadio Mane)... and then nothing too obvious beyond that, with both Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge out on loan.

"If he (Salah) is fit (for Man City), then that is a massive weapon. If he's not, then we saw in the derby how Klopp's team will struggle to find any pace or penetration on the break."

Super Salah and invaluable Firmino

Everyone knows how incredible a season Salah is having, with the 25-year-old scoring a whopping 38 goals in 42 games so far since joining the Reds from Roma.

Meanwhile, Bobby Firmino's all-round game has become a massive part Liverpool's style of play and the Brazilian's recorded a career-high 23 goals in addition to 13 assists this term.

Is Fowler right about Liverpool?

Despite having 62% possession, Liverpool were unable to break Everton down and the Toffees actually could have won the goalless derby late on.

Having sent Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge out on loan, Liverpool's main attacking back-up are now Ings and summer signing Solanke, both of whom failed to impress at the weekend.
