Patrick Reed clung on to his 54 hole lead to win the Masters by a shot from Rickie Fowler.

The Texan born golfer went into the final round with a three shot lead over Rory McIlroy, but saw his lead cut immediately after bogeying in the first.

Fortunately for Reed, McIlroy was unable to put the pressure on as he missed a number of short putts in his round.

But Reed would come under pressure from a number of other challengers, including Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler.

Spieth shot a miraculous -8 under par 64 to set the clubhouse lead at -13 under par for the tournament, and Fowler went one better by birdieing the last.

However, despite seeing his lead cut to one going into the final few holes, Reed made a number of solid par saves on the last few holes to win the Green Jacket by a single stroke.

WHAT RICKIE FOWLER DID AFTER REED WON

It was just another of Fowler's near misses. The 29-year-old has now finished second three times in Majors.

It would be understandable for the California born player to be disappointed with the narrow loss, but that could not be further from the truth.

After finishing his round, Fowler immediately went to the clubhouse to see how Reed closed out the tournament.

After Reed parred the last to win by a stroke, Fowler headed out to the entrance of the clubhouse, where he waited for the victor so he could offer his congratulations.

They then exchange a hug, whilst also having a playful conversation.

"You had to do it didn't you?" Reed told him as they exchanged a hug. "You had to birdie the last."

"I had to keep you honest," Fowler responded with a grin.

What a gesture by Fowler. Finishing second in a Major not once, but three times would be tough for anyone to take.

But Fowler showed he is one of the classiest players in the sport by taking the defeat so well.

His actions went down very well with Golf fans on Twitter, who praised him for his actions.
