Jose Mourinho clearly didn’t read the script before he took his Manchester United side to the Etihad on Saturday.

A Manchester City win would see them become the earliest side to be crowned Premier League champions, taking them 19 points clear of their Manchester rivals.

But since when does a Mourinho side roll over?

Well, after 45 minutes, it looked as though they were going to.

Goals from Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan put City on the verge of becoming champions. In truth, it should have been more than just 2-0.

Raheem Sterling missed two glorious opportunities to kill off the game in the first-half, while they also had a penalty shout turned down after Ashley Young slipped and handled the ball, preventing a low cross from reaching his England teammate.

At the time, it didn’t look as though it would really matter.

"YOU'LL GET TWO OR THREE"

In fact, Sterling probably thought he would have plenty of opportunities to grab his goal to help City win the league.

Well, that’s certainly what his teammate Fabian Delph thought.

Captured by ‘Tunnel Cam’ Delph was speaking to Sterling as they left their dressing room at half-time.

At 16:35 in the video, Delph can be heard saying: “Keep getting in the positions. You’re gonna get two or three.”

Well, that’s a bit awkward.

The only player getting "two or three" was Paul Pogba, as he hauled United back into the game with a brilliant brace.

Chris Smalling completed the comeback with 20 minutes remaining, meaning City have to wait at least another two weeks to be crowned champions.

As for Sterling, he missed another absolute sitter late on. With a glorious chance to equalise, he could only hit the post from six yards out.

Delph’s pep-talk clearly didn’t work, did it?
