Liverpool are edging closer and closer to getting their hands on Naby Keita.

The Reds have seriously impressed in recent months and many fans believe next season will be their year with the RB Leipzig midfielder as the final piece in the puzzle. He could be the difference between a fight for the top four or a tangible assault on the Premier League crown.

Kopites have been eagerly listening to updates on Keita throughout the season, jumping on the snippets that come back from journalists, fans and pundits.

Over the winter months, the general consensus was that Keita had taken his eye off the ball this season after his successful debut campaign in the Bundesliga.

German pundit and ex-Bayer Leverkusen player Simon Wolfes wrote in Kicker in January: "He has not had the same impact that he did last season.

"Too often, he has been undisciplined and has harmed his team."

As his Liverpool move approaches, though, he has hit fine form and made the headlines for a stellar performance against Bayern Munich by scoring and assisting in a 2-1 win.

Very exciting stuff indeed and an indication that he could live up to the billing at Anfield.

Teammate compares Keita to Iniesta

The fresh excitement around Keita has also been reflected in the verdict of Leipzig's very own Timo Werner in a recent interview with FourFourTwo.

While, of course, Werner was always going to be complimentary regarding his own teammate, Werner took things even further and dropped a comparison to Andres Iniesta. Yes, Andres Iniesta.

Werner stated: "Naby will be a world-class player because he has everything.

"I think he's a bit like Andres Iniesta, the same type of player, because he can dribble, shoot and score. He has a lot of qualities that the young Iniesta had.

"I don't think Naby will get worse. He'll only get better."

The comparison should obviously be taken with a pinch of salt, but coming from somebody who plays alongside aside him everyday, he won't be saying it for no reason.

How Keita adapts to the Premier League will go a long way to deciding whether all the hype surrounding him is justified and if he can make that leap to 'world-class.'

In other words, will he be an N'Golo Kante or a Tiemoue Bakayoko?

On current form, you'd think the former and even if Keita performs with half the quality of Iniesta, Liverpool will be onto a winner.
