It was another disappointing night for Manchester City in the Champions League.Pep Guardiola's side had their eyes on a historic quadruple earlier on in the season, but that possibility has been shattered in recent times.Man City crashed out of the FA Cup in a shock defeat to Wigan in February, but whilst they continued their good form in the league, they remained one of the favourites to lift the Champions League. But then they draw Liverpool in the quarter-finals of Europe's top club competition.Neither side would have been happy that they were matched together, but Man City would have been confident they could dispose of their Premier League rivals. However, that was not meant to be.Jurgen Klopp's men were devastating from the first minute to the last. They blew Man City away for the course of the 180 minutes, eventually prevailing 5-1 on aggregate.

ILKAY GUNDOGAN'S CLASSY TWEET

Many of Man City's players would have been disappointed with crashing out of the Champions League, and rightly so.

But one of their players took to Twitter shortly after the game to express his congratulations to the victors.

Gundogan, who played under Klopp at Dortmund, took to Twitter within an hour of the games' conclusion.

Instead of addressing Man City fans, he sent a message to the victors, and it must be said it is absolute class.

Replying to a tweet from Man City's official account thanking their supports, Gundogan wrote: "Congratulations to Liverpool. Good luck in the semi-finals @LFC!"

Now that is true class.

It is natural to assume Gundogan was disappointed with the result, but he still offered his congratulations to Liverpool almost immediately after the match.

The tweet has since gone viral, with his post attracting 4,000 likes and 19,000 comments at the time of writing.

Liverpool fans clearly appreciated his message of support, and many took the time to thank him on Twitter.

PEP GUARDIOLA ALSO PRAISED LIVERPOOL

Pep Guardiola also recognised that Liverpool were the deserved victors and backed them to make it to the final.

“I should say big congratulations to Liverpool for going through,” Guardiola noted after the game.

“Hopefully they can defend English football in the semi-finals. They are a top team with a top manager and I would say they deserve to be in the final.

“We made an outstanding 45 minutes, really good. But then the second half, the first goal, with the big qualities of Salah, for everybody we had to change how we played. We were more tired.

“Liverpool deserve to go through. In the first half we did absolutely everything. We created chances. It was not easy because they put 10 players behind but we controlled perfectly the counter-attacks, but the second half was quite different.”
