Manchester City are undoubtedly the best side in the Premier League right now, but it's a whole 'nother story when it comes to Europe.
Having cruised through the group stages and then past FC Basel in the last 16, it was thought the Citizens would be strong contenders for the Champions League.
They were no match for Liverpool in the quarter-finals, though. City got torn to pieces at Anfield last week and then lost 2-1 in the second leg on Wednesday night, making it 5-1 on aggregate.
Liverpool's front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane proved too hot to handle and scored four of the five goals across both legs.
They were the deserved winners and now find themselves third favourites to win the competition, behind Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
City's players know they were second best, too, with Gabriel Jesus one of many to admit that Liverpool merited progressing into the last four.
"We managed to score very early, in the second minute which was very important, and then after that we managed to control the ball and keep it in their half," said the Brazilian.
"Then we had a goal disallowed from [Leroy] Sane and that was difficult to take because it affected the game a little bit.
"It's difficult to talk about a goal and whether it's allowed or not - this is part of football, sometimes those things happen. So it's heads up. Liverpool deserved to go through."
Credit where it's due, City's players have been gracious in defeat and now Benjamin Mendy has jumped on the bandwagon by sending a classy tweet to Liverpool.
"And of course bravo @LFC," the French full-back tweeted. "Good luck for the final stages of UCL, see you next year."
Well played. Mendy's tweet isn't too dissimilar to Ilkay Gundogan's, who also wished Liverpool the best of luck following the game.
It's been six years since an English club last won the Champions League (Chelsea), so Liverpool will hopefully have the support of the whole nation heading into the semi-finals.
