Canelo Alvarez is arguably the biggest name in professional boxing today, and he's going through a bit of a rough time.

The Mexican star was originally set to rematch longtime rival Gennady Golovkin on May 5th from their initial meeting last September where they fought to a draw. Unfortunately, Alvarez failed multiple PED tests and the bout was called off.

Alvarez has stepped into the ring opposite some of the best boxers the sport has ever seen, including the greatest of all time - Floyd Mayweather.

The pair fought for 12 rounds, and despite Canelo's game-changing power behind his punches, Mayweather was able to pick him apart for the entirety of the contest.

Just prior to their fight, however, it seems that Mayweather had some doubts as to whether or not Canelo was clean for their fight.

Former Nevada Senator Harry Reid tells Bad Left Hook that Mayweather had some doubts about the Mexican prior to squaring off (quotes via The Big Lead):

“Mayweather always felt Canelo was on something. He said, ‘I’m gonna go ahead and fight him.’

"Mayweather was interested in money and he thought it would hurt the purse. He went ahead and fought the guy and toyed with him.”

While Canelo awaits this debacle to be sorted out, Golovkin is currently searching for an opponent and his status is currently up in the air. Mayweather, as always, is looking to make a huge move in the combat sports world.

There are currently rumblings that Mayweather could jump over to the world of mixed martial arts (MMA) for a fight against Conor McGregor. In fact, reports recently surfaced that a fight has been targetted between the pair with specific rules inside the cage.

Essentially, McGregor and Mayweather would be fighting in a boxing fight inside of an MMA cage. There are a ton of things going on in the combat sports world at the moment. We'll have to wait and see how they play out.

What are your thoughts on Mayweather believing that Canelo was possibly "on something" when they fought each other back in 2013? Do you think that Canelo has been abusing PEDs throughout his career? Or is his recent case ahead of his scheduled fight against Golovkin the result of tainted meat or a supplement? Let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments section below!
