Just because Khabib Nurmagomedov is now the undefeated, undisputed UFC lightweight champion of the world, it doesn’t mean every MMA fan is going along with that notion.

There are fans that believe Nurmagomedov deserves to have that title, and also deserves to be considered the best after amassing an incredible 26-0 professional record on his way to the championship, including one-sided victories against the likes of Edson Barboza and Michael Johnson.

NEW CHAMPION

Then, there are those that believe the only way he can be considered the best is if he takes the championship away from Conor McGregor, who never lost the title in the first place. Along with this, they feel that somebody who has only defeated one top 10 ranked fighter on his way to the gold shouldn’t be considered the true champion.

However, if we’re sticking with criticism The Eagle constantly faces, it’s his fighting styles which doesn’t excite many fans. His sambo wrestling might not ‘wow’ the audience every time he steps foot inside of the Octagon, but nobody has figured out how to combat his style.

So, it comes as no surprise after seeing him go up against Al Iaquinta at UFC 223 that many believe the likes of the Notorious - or any heavy hitter for that matter - will trouble the Dagestani as soon as they land flush on his chin.

Surprisingly, Nurmagomedov’s coach also believes his fighter isn’t ready to stand and strike with the likes of the Irishman and even Nate Diaz.

American Kickboxing Academy’s Javier Mendez has instead claimed that a different game plan would be a lot more effective than trying to stand and strike when speaking on The MMA Hour.

GAME PLAN

According to MMA Imports, he said: “Jesus Christ, you think he’s going to fight Nate Diaz?

“You think we are going to stand with Nate Diaz? You think we have a chance against Nate Diaz? You think, I think that? For God’s sake, no way. No way in hell are we going to fight with Conor’s stand up too.

“Everybody’s got a different game plan. If you don’t change the game plan according to what’s going on, you are going to get checkmated. This is not all the time about the best fighter.

“Sometimes it is about the best fighter, yes. But, it is also about the game plan. If you don’t do it right, you can get in trouble.”

So, Khabib’s coach has openly said what many are thinking. This will be music to the ears of their respective teams who now know what they must do to get the better of Khabib and try to etch the first loss on his incredible record.

Although, Khabib has fought some strikers in the past - such as Barboza - but all of his opponents have failed to work out his confusing sambo style.
