An Olivier Giroud-inspired comeback may have helped Chelsea to three points at St Mary's, but not before Southampton gave them an almighty scare.A trip to Mark Hughes' relegation-threatened side should have been the perfect opportunity for the Blues to arrest their slump, but it was never going to be that straightforward. It's now been 10 games since they managed to keep a clean sheet and that run continued when Dusan Tadic put the Saints 1-0 up with his first goal since Boxing Day, with Jan Bednarek doubling their lead on the hour mark. For the first, Cesar Azpilicueta was beaten down the right hand side to compound his side's recent problems after their recent draw with West Ham and defeat to Tottenham.Things could - and should - have got even worse for the visitors had Marcos Alonso been disciplined for an awful challenge on Shane Long. The Spanish international actually stepped over Cesc Fabregas and brought his studs down on the Irishman's calf, which left him unsurprisingly needing treatment.Mike Dean did not cover himself in glory here - it was a needlessly reckless tackle, if you can even call it that, and Alonso was a lucky boy to find himself still on the pitch.Check out the incident below:

Plenty of fans on Twitter believe the full-back must now receive a retrospective ban:

Matt Le Tissier was quite rightly on Long's side, but his disdain was chiefly reserved for the referee.

"How this is not seen by the referee is bizarre. If he wasn't quite so arrogant he'd probably be embarrassed about missing a tackle like this?" the Southampton legend told Sky Sports.

"What's Alonso trying to do? There's only one thing on his mind there: hurt Shane Long, and Mike Dean, if you see the other camera angle, was looking straight at the incident.

"How on earth he misses this is incredible."

In the studio with him was Dennis Wise, who added: "He'll come out and say he didn't say that and if he didn't see it he, one, shouldn't be refereeing and two, needs glasses"

Pretty unanimous, then. Chelsea can't have been expecting to get so rattled by Hughes' men, but they have had a habit of not making things easy for themselves in recent weeks.
