Despite the fact that he has next fight lined up, UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker has given his take on the antics of former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

Whittaker won the interim title when he beat Yoel Romero back at UFC 213 in July.

Then the promotion made him the champion after Georges St-Pierre vacated the strap due to a medical condition in December after beating Michael Bisping at UFC 217 to win it.

As a result of Whittaker dealing with a staph infection in his stomach and did not receive proper treatment, he was forced to withdraw from his first title defense against Luke Rockhold at UFC 221.

This led to the promotion booking an interim title bout between top contenders Rockhold and Romero.

With Romero picking up the win over Rockhold, he is the clear #1 contender for the title. If you recall, that fight almost didn’t happen due to Romero missing weight.

So let’s dive into why Romero missed weight for the main event fight.

He went on record by telling the media that he had a diet plan laid out for his originally scheduled fight, which would’ve been at UFC on FOX 28 in two weeks later.

Whittaker stated in a recent interview while promoting his upcoming title defense against Romero at the upcoming UFC 225 pay-per-view event that believes that McGregor deserves a stiff punishment for hurting a few fighters on a bus after attacking two days before the UFC 223 pay-per-view event.

As a result of this incident, it led to three fights being pulled from the card as two fighters suffered injuries.

McGregor turned himself into the NYPD following his destruction late Thursday night. Authorities say he’s facing assault charges stemming the incident.

“He should go to jail,” Whittaker told FanSided MMA. “He’s a high profile athlete, him being a high-profile athlete in MMA makes it a travesty for this sport. I think it sets us back a bit.”

The UFC 225 pay-per-view event slated to go down on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.
