There is a great deal of excitement surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold right now.

The 19-year-old has made the right-back spot at Liverpool his own with a number of impressive performances, including against Manchester City in the Champions League.

Alexander-Arnold’s assist for Mohamed Salah in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday was superb, and many are now calling for England coach Gareth Southgate to include the youngster in his World Cup squad.

Jermaine Jenas lead the calls to get Alexander-Arnold on the plane to Russia following the Bournemouth win.

“People want to talk about him for England, I think actually whatever Kieran Trippier has got, he’s got that,” Jenas said on BT Sport.

“He’s also got the athleticism of Kyle Walker. I think I would (take him to the World Cup), yeah.”

As a local lad - Alexander-Arnold grew up just minutes away from Liverpool’s Melwood training ground - the teenager is adored by the club’s supporters.

'TAA is the next Carragher'

Indeed, many want nothing more than to see him follow in the footsteps of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher by going through the youth setup and spending the majority of his career at Anfield.

Carragher admitted in the week that he believes Alexander-Arnold could surpass his tally of 737 appearances in for Liverpool and the 2005 Champions League had a funny quip to make about the young defender on Twitter on Saturday.

A Liverpool supporter said Alexander-Arnold is “gonna be the next Carragher for Liverpool”, to which the former centre-back simply had to reply.

“Own goals galore to come!,” came Carragher’s response.

The 40-year-old was, of course, making light of his penchant for putting the ball in the back of his own net during his playing days.

Carragher scored seven own goals in the Premier League, putting him joint-second in the all-time list behind Richard Dunne.

Alexander-Arnold will be pleased if his career follows a similar path to Carragher’s, but he’ll hope he doesn’t come close to that number of own goals.
