Daniel Ricciardo was pretty pleased with his overtaking exploits en route to victory in Sunday's Chinese GP in Shanghai. The Australian had appeared set for a pretty dull drive to fifth in the first half of the race, without the pace to challenge those ahead and a solid margin to Kimi Raikkonen behind. That all changed though when a mid-race Safety Car saw he and teammate Max Verstappen be the only cars of the top six pit for a second time and put on new Soft tyres for the final 20 or so laps.Able to push hard to the finish, both Red Bull drivers set about catching those in front, but the Dutchman would take himself out of the equation by going off track after attempting an audacious move on Lewis Hamilton. That cleared the way for the 28-year-old to produce four of his infamous passing manoeuvres on both Ferrari and Mercedes drivers to take what is the sixth win of his career.“I don’t seem to win boring races. That was unexpected," he admitted afterwards.“24 hours ago I thought we may be starting at the back of the grid. Thanks to the boys, today is the real reward for that. The mechanics worked their butts off.”What Ricciardo was referring to was the turbo failure he suffered in final practice on Saturday which left his team scrambling to change his engine before qualifying.Eventually, he would make it out just three minutes before the end of Q1 before going to finish sixth.Next, the man from Perth was asked about the late decision to pit both he and Verstappen after the Safety Car was called.“It was hectic,” he said. “I heard Safety Car and they said we are going to double stop, come.“It happened very quickly, very decisive winning move from the team.“Fat lip and all I got the win.”

Perhaps the most remarkable of his four overtakes was a lunge on Lewis Hamilton into the hairpin, which saw Ricciardo fly down the inside from around 40m behind.

“Sometimes you’ve just got to lick the stamp and send it," he said in classic Ricciardo fashion.

“Obviously I knew I could get a little more out of the braking them him. You know you have one chance to try so I made the most of every opportunity.”

He then teased about his race-winning move on the other Mercedes driver, Valtteri Bottas.

“I saw him defend so I wanted to go shallower but I thought about pulling out… Kidding," he joked.

“I always knew there was enough room and my tyres had pretty good grip so worse case I’d go wide and have another go.

“It was close, I think hard but fair,"  he concluded.

Later in the post-race press conference, the always colourful Aussie let out this little one-liner...
