In the world of professional wrestling one of the highest honors an in-ring talent can receive, is coming back backstage from their match and getting a standing ovation from everyone behind the curtain.

What makes things even more special is when Vince McMahon himself is one of the men front-and-center applauding your match.

One man who never thought he'd receive a standing ovation backstage from the boys, let alone from Vince McMahon, is former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Hornswoggle.

Hornswoggle was originally introduced to WWE fans as the pesky little assistant to Irish brawler Finlay.

While dwelling under the ring, Hornswoggle would occasionally pop up from down under to assist Finlay in his matches.

Eventually Hornswoggle would break off on his own as not only a singles star, but part of a faction as well. Hornswoggle won the WWE Cruiserweight Championship and was the final title holder of the original belt.

Years later he'd align himself with Three Man Band (3MB). This would set up a feud with Los Matadores who had a little man in their ranks as well - El Torito.

Of course, Torito and Hornswoggle would spark a rivalry of their own, leading to what would be one of the most interesting and entertaining matches in WWE history - the WeeLC match.

This was a play off of the Tables Ladder and Chairs (TLC) match that has longtime been a fan favorite.

Hornswoggle, who has since been released from WWE, recently did an interview on the  McMahonsplaining, the With Spandex Podcast to talk about the WeeLC match.

He explained that when he and Torito came back from backstage they received a standing ovation from the boys and Vince McMahon himself (quotes via IWNerd):

“Unexpected. People expected it to be us biting each other’s asses on top of ladders. Instead, we beat the piss outta each other and ourselves. It was a lot of moving parts, man.

"Everyone was so excited. Everyone involved was so excited, between the agents and all the guys involved, we were so excited for everything. And I remember getting … I say it at every interview.

"I get to the back and didn’t get ungeared for like two hours. I was like, ‘This is so awesome.’ Easily, maybe my only standing ovation in ‘Gorilla,’ even from Vince [McMahon], which made me feel really good about myself. It was awesome.

"That’s the one where, if someone asks what I do, I give them that. I’ve only watched it once. It’s one of the three matches in my career I’ve watched. I’ve never watched any more than that. I don’t watch my stuff.”

“And I remember going through Gorilla, saying, “Thank you,” and all that, and taking it in all there kinda there.

"And then immediately running to the props truck and saying, “I need a piece of the table.” So they gave me one, and they had everyone sign it. It’s framed in my office”
