There’s already plenty of understandable interest in Daniel Bryan now that he’s finally made his in-ring return in emphatic fashion where he and Shane McMahon defeated the team of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 34.
Everybody wants to know what the WWE’s plans could be for him now that he’s no longer the general manager of SmackDown LIVE - a spot which has now been taken by Paige - and has returned to full-time action.
What makes his situation even more intriguing, though, is the fact that the Superstar Shake-up returns this week and takes place over two days. With Bryan back as a superstar and not an authoritative figure, he’s eligible to be selected as part of a move which could potentially see him head over to Monday Night RAW.
Obviously, the wise decision would be to keep guys like Bryan and Roman Reigns apart and on separate brands, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see WWE capitalise on his return by switching him over to their A-show instead of somebody like AJ Styles; someone else who has been speculated to move.
While more will be made clear over the next two days, Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer have been discussing the possible implications the Shake-up could have on Bryan, and who he could end up feuding with.
There are some huge names out there, and you only have to look at the ‘top five’ or ‘top 10’ lists that fans and outlets created regarding WWE dream matches for Bryan once his in-ring return was made official by WWE.
One of the most popular choices was The Miz. Clearly, he’s the perfect fit as their story goes back years, not to forget the infamous Talking Smack promo. So, it would be a good way for the company to come back full circle and have the two men embroiled in a rivalry together.
Well, that could happen if the Shake-up goes in favour of this. Meltzer believes that although it could happen, he feels it takes Bryan down a level while others will argue that it takes The Miz up a level, considering how entertaining he is.
According to Ringside News, he said: “You could do that, it’s kind of a real waste of Daniel Bryan, though. You could do it, but I don’t know.
“It’s like that was one of those things that it would be good but it also takes Daniel Bryan down a level, once he’s at that level it’s kind of like he should be at a level way above Miz.
“I wouldn’t mind seeing them have a match, but I would hate to see him bogged down with [The Miz].”
You can see where he’s coming from in regards to Bryan deserving more of the elite feuds. However, there’s no denying that The Miz is a worthy opponent and feud for Bryan which is something the WWE certainly needs to book.
The Miz has been gold for a long time, while the story there between the two sells itself. Fans will be hoping Bryan stays on the blue brand during the Shake-up, and a move for The Miz could make things much easier.
