We are just two weeks away from Tony Bellew and David Haye meeting in the ring for their eagerly anticipated rematch at the O2 Arena.

Haye went into the first bout in March 2017 as the favourite, but an injury to his achilles in the sixth round swung the momentum Bellew's way.

With the Londoner visibly struggling, Bellew took control of the fight, and eventually won after Haye's corner threw in the towel.

Haye, 37, stated that he will retire from the sport for good if the fight doesn't go as planned.

"You know, even if I win this fight, but I don’t look spectacular, I will retire," he told Sky Sports, per the Metro.  "I’m 37 years of age now, pushing 38, if I don’t win this fight in spectacular form, it will be my last fight, for sure.

"If I lose the fight, 100% that’s me done. But you know, if I’ve got any type of aspirations to fight some of the big monsters of the division.

"You know, (Anthony) Joshua is up here, three stone bigger, 10 years younger, if I can’t dispatch of a Tony Bellew in good form, I’ve got no business even thinking about fighting for the heavyweight title."

BELLEW RESPONDS

In a recent interview with IFL TV, Bellew is convinced that Haye will retire after the fight.

The Liverpudlian fighter conceded that whereas Haye is the better boxer, he cannot beat him because of their contrasting styles.

"I'm going to retire him," Bellew said. "He has no say in this.

"The minute he signed the contract for the first fight his career was over.

"Styles make fights in boxing. It's not always necessarily the better guy that wins, it's the guy that can adapt and adjust that wins.

"If boxing was all about the better fighter always wins, Sugar Ray Leonard would have gone undefeated his whole career. Sugar Ray Robinson would never have been beaten ever in his life.

"But that's just not how it works. That's not reality.

"The reality is my style just isn't right for him. Is David Haye a better boxer than me? In some aspects yes. Is he stronger and faster than me? Possibly yes.

"Has he got a better boxing brain? Absolutely not. Are his feet better than mine? No."

Bellew reaffirmed his belief that he would knock Haye out later on in the interview.

"David Haye's getting knocked out," he added. "Say what you want about the first fight, it's the second fight. He's getting knocked out."

Interesting. Bellew was actually quite complimentary for the whole interview, stating that Haye has had a fantastic career and that he is better than him in many departments.

But Bellew is confident that Haye will not be able to cope with his style. We'll see whether he's right or not when the two collide at the O2 Arena on May 5.
