Philadelphia Eagles' Carson Wentz was on his way towards a potential MVP-winning season when he was struck with bad luck when he suffered a season-ending ACL injury in his left knee with three games to go in the regular season.

Backup quarterback Nick Foles took Wentz' place under center, and lead the franchise to their first-ever Super Bowl win against the New England Patriots in Minneapolis, meaning despite losing their starting quarterback, the Eagles still managed to finish on top.

Foles was awarded the Super Bowl MVP award for his performance on that Super Bowl night last February and got to hoist the Vince Lombardi trophy in front of the thousands inside US Bank Stadium and the millions watching at home, something which Carson isn't afraid to admit he was jealous about.

Speaking to Matt Hammond of SportsRadioWIP, the 25-year-old revealed that he was jealous when he was forced to watch Foles win a Super Bowl and be the MVP of the game from the sidelines, admitting that he wanted to be the guy standing on the podium by the end of the game.

He said: "You’ve gotta fight that. It’s human nature to wanna be on that podium, and be that guy." Wentz also admitted that it couldn’t have happened to a better guy than Foles, showing true honesty and class in support of his teammate.

It's difficult to say whether or not the Eagles still would have gone on to the Super Bowl and beat the Patriots if Wentz never got injured. They were in good form when he was under center, so you would expect that would have carried on regardless.

He was 11-2 in the games he started and set a franchise record with 33 touchdown passes before his injury occurred. Wentz was named to the Pro Bowl, earned second-team All-Pro honors, and finished third in the MVP vote.

As for when the Eagles quarterback plans on returning to the field, he said recently during an interview with the team's media that the goal is still for him to return in time for Week 1 of the 2018 season.

The Super Bowl champions will find out who they will be playing in that game later this week on Thursday when the 2018 NFL regular season scheduled is released.
