After 17 years, it looks as if Jack Wilshere's time in north London is finally coming to an end.

The midfielder has little over two months left on his contract and there's little indication that he will earn a new one at present.

A return of 35 appearances in all competitions is more than many Arsenal fans would have expected from him, but he simply hasn't given the club enough reason to retain his services.

Even when things have been going well - case in point, the Europa League quarter-final first-leg against CSKA Moscow - the England international has struggled to impress.

That has left Arsene Wenger with a conundrum between his heart and his head.

Wilshere is undoubtedly committed to Arsenal having risen through the ranks of their academy and yet his injury problems have continually held him back.

As per the Daily Mail, the 26-year-old is not satisfied with the contract already on the table and an increased offer isn't forthcoming.

However, that does mean that he will be an attractive free agent this summer, with the newspaper suggesting Wolves are keen to bring him in to add Premier League experience to their squad following their automatic promotion from the Championship.

Wilshere would fit nicely

Since Jorge Mendes came on board in 2016, Nuno's side have had no problem whatsoever attracting top players and that should be even easier now they are a top-flight side.

On the one hand, while it might seem like a step down for Wilshere, who in a similar vein spent last season on loan at Bournemouth, playing in an energised Wolves midfield alongside the likes of Ruben Neves could do his career the world of good.

Of course, that depends partly on whether they are able to keep hold of their current prize asset. It is easy to see how the two could be paired together and Neves could lure Wilshere's creativity out of him again.

West Ham, Everton, and AC Milan have also been linked and while the latter could also offer a resurgence project, it remains to be seen whether he would be keen to try his hand in another league.
