Despite all of the hype and excitement surrounding the Greatest Royal Rumble event next week, there has also been plenty of confusion regarding one match in particular.

WWE heads to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on April 27 to put on a show many fans are claiming can easily rival WrestleMania 34. Every single championship - other than the women’s titles - will be defended and there is speculation that the Universal Championship could be changing hands with Brock Lesnar rumoured to lose to Roman Reigns.

GREATEST ROYAL RUMBLE

The likes of John Cena and Triple H will be on the card, along with a huge 50-man Royal Rumble taking place with some big stars involved. However, it’s the Casket match featuring The Undertaker which has had fans talking all week.

Rusev was initially announced as his opponent, but the company quickly switched him with Chris Jericho, who was originally set to feature in the Royal Rumble match where the winner is going to receive a trophy.

There has been plenty of speculation as to why Rusev was taken out. Some thought it could lead to him leaving the WWE as all the signs pointed to that outcome, while it had also been claimed that it was down to comments he made in an interview which the WWE didn’t like.

Whatever happened, they changed their minds yet again as Rusev was brought back into the fold and Jericho was taken out to be added into the Royal Rumble match again in the Middle East in a situation which is both confusing and difficult to keep up with.

Now that it looks like the card is finalised, Jericho has broken his silence on the whole situation and his response is exactly why WWE fans love him.

When speaking on CBS Sports’ In This Corner podcast, Jericho admitted he doesn’t mind being replaced in a huge match like this as he’d do anything the WWE wants him to as his legacy allows him to.

REACTION

According to Wrestling Inc, he said: “For me, at this point, whether they want me to be part of the Royal Rumble or work against Undertaker or work against Funaki in a lingerie match, whatever they want me to do there, I will.

“That’s the good thing about my legacy and where I am at this point of my career. I can be the opening match or the main event, whatever it is, it’s going to be good. Things changed, which is part of the world of WWE, happens all the time.

“For me, until I actually walk into the ring, sometimes you never know what is going to happen. Things get changed during the show sometimes. I think fans sometimes get a little too excited about certain things that happened and didn’t happen.”

While fans are happy that Rusev is getting a big match like this, it’s clear which way this one is going to go. For this reason, perhaps keeping Jericho in this position, with a loss almost guaranteed, would have been the better way to protect Rusev and his popularity.
