Dean Ambrose has been out of action now for four months now since he suffered a triceps injury back in December last year. After successful surgery, it was reported that he would take nine months to recover, meaning he should be back in the ring in September this year.
Due to the fact he is out of action at the moment, The Lunatic Fringe wasn't part of the Superstar Shake-up this week on Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live, and since he was part of the Raw roster before his injury, he's still expected to be a member of WWE's red brand once he is able to compete again.
That return could actually come sooner than a lot of WWE fans would have expected if Seth Rollins is to be believed, as he revealed an interesting development about his Shield brother's recovery from his tricep injury.
According to IWNerd, Rollins recently made an appearance on KFM 94.5 while in Cape Town, South Africa. During the appearance, he was asked about Ambrose and when he is expected back in the ring. He ended up providing an update on The Lunatic Fringe's injury and recovery timetable.
The Kingslayer said: “He had some pretty extensive triceps surgery earlier this year so he’s definitely still on the mend and rehabbing. But he’ll be back and better than ever, you wait. Summertime, maybe late Spring. Somewhere in there, I think, whenever that whiley guy gets back to normal."
This is very interesting as, if Rollins is correct, this would put Ambrose either one month or four months ahead of schedule in his tricep injury recovery. He could very well be back in time to have a feud with another member of the Raw roster at SummerSlam later this year.
Ambrose's last feud in the WWE came alongside Rollins when they were battling against Cesaro and Sheamus for the Raw Tag Team Championship in December last year.
Since The Bar is now on SmackDown thanks to the Superstar Shake-up, this feud is unlikely to be picked back up, so it will be intriguing to see what WWE has in mind for Ambrose upon his return.
Rollins was also asked if the Shield would go back to normal when Dean returns, to which he said that they are all still buds but they will probably do their own thing. So, more than likely, The Lunatic Fringe will be a singles star once more as well when he makes his in-ring return.
