Preparations for the summer will already be underway at Manchester United.

This season has been something of a reality check for the Red Devils. Despite spending more than £100 million last summer on new players, they haven’t been able to keep up with rivals Manchester City.

Jose Mourinho will be given another sizeable warchest to improve his squad and according to the Manchester Evening News, he’s already identified his four ideal targets.

Jorginho, Fred, Toby Alderweireld and Alex Sandro are some of the names on Mourinho’s list as he looks to upgrade his options.

Gifting the Premier League title to Man City with that 1-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion will have pained Mourinho and his players but improvements have been made at Old Trafford this season.

And this is what the Portuguese coach will remind his squad.

Jermaine Jenas, who has forged a fine post-playing career as a pundit, has weighed in with his thoughts on what the Red Devils should do in the summer.

'It's nailed on'

In his column for GQ, Jenas admitted that Man United are “just not there” in defence, and believes the club are “nailed on” to sign Danny Rose, who has a valuation of £50m, from Tottenham Hotspur.

“I want an overlapping left back, like an Ashley Cole or what Danny Rose brought to Spurs last season,” Jenas said.

“I think it’s nailed on that Mourinho will get Rose this summer and the smart deal would be for Luke Shaw to go in the opposite direction.

“To me, everyone wins from that deal and although it’s hard to leave the biggest club in the country, Spurs are so exciting at the moment that it would revive Shaw’s career.

“If Danny Rose has a good World Cup, I would expect Daniel Levy to value him in a similar way to Kyle Walker. I think he will bring out the ’50 million’ number.”

While Jenas is expecting several incomings, he also believes there will be one departure - that of Paul Pogba.

“It’s a tough call, but my gut instinct tells me he’ll be on his way,” the former Newcastle United and Tottenham midfielder added.

“When you look at what Mourinho really values – the lack of risk, the solid, dependable midfielder – I don’t see Pogba in that plan.

“I rate him incredibly highly. I know how good he is, but I don’t see how he stays at United if Mourinho is there.”
