Jose Mourinho boasts some seriously fast players in his Manchester United squad.

It’s no coincidence given his longstanding preference to structure teams with a view to being most dangerous on the counter-attack.

A glance at the Red Devils’ transfer activity since the Portuguese took charge says a lot about his need for speed.

Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have effectively been replaced by Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez – hardly a like-for-like swap in terms of mobility.

While Mourinho has often been criticised for his tactics, his list of managerial honours provides a telling rebuttal against his doubters.

Eight domestic league titles, two Champions League medals and a Europa League trophy speak for themselves, and there’s little cause for him to abandon his direct approach.

With Lukaku, Sanchez, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard at his disposal, Mourinho boasts several of the deadliest attackers in England.

United ooze speed throughout their ranks, but which of them is the most rapid?

It’s impossible to make an accurate decision as a spectator, so, luckily, someone who watches them shift through the gears on a daily basis has offered some valuable insight.

JESSE LINGARD WNAMES THE FASTEST UNITED PLAYER

Answering questions about his teammates as part of an interview with Soccer AM, Lingard – arguably a candidate himself – has revealed who he thinks is the quickest Red Devil.

“I'd probably say Marcus or Martial, he has sharp feet. Paul [Pogba] said he is faster than me but I can't see it. I told him we can race after training,” he said, per Sky Sports.

As a follow-up, Lingard was asked which United player would finish first in a 100m dash between the entire squad.

“I think Rashy would nick it. I've not seen Anthony over a long distance but I know Marcus could run 100m quick.”

The young striker certainly cuts the tall, powerful figure required of a successful sprinter, and he’s utilised this asset to great effect since breaking into the first-team at Old Trafford.

Blessed with devastating acceleration to boot, some might even claim Rashford is up there with the likes of Leroy Sane, Hector Bellerin, Jame Vardy and Kyle Walker.
