Daniel Ricciardo has demanded massive new wages amidst speculation of Ferrari and Mercedes switch deals.

The Australian has demanded a sensational £36million from just a two-year contract at the team he ends up with by next season, according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The current Red Bull driver is in talks with the UK-based side to remain part of the team, but his wage demands may prove to be too much for team principal Christian Horner in the end.

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claim Ricciardo has made his wage demands public to Ferrari and Mercedes as he eyes a possible switch deal away from Red Bull.

Ricciardo has has an impressive season with Red Bull to date, winning the Chinese Grand Prix in his last outing.

The 28-year-old's contract expires at the end of the calendar year and it seems to be a three-way race to acquire his services for the upcoming two seasons.

Ricciardo has made it clear that he expects an £18m-a-season deal that will see him earn £36m by the end of 2020.

He's already admitted that he only wants to sign a two-year deal as he doesn't know the future of the motorsport, with Liberty Media recently coming in and making numerous changes.

Formula 1 powerhouses Ferrari are expected to drop Finnish driver Kimi Raikkonen from their roster come the end of the season, who currently earns £6.1m per season.

This leaves room (not so much financially) for Ricciardo to fill in his place for the 2019 season.

Mercedes are expected to in the hunt for another driver during the off-season as well, given Valtteri Bottas’ deal expires at the end of the current season.

Despite the intense speculation, Red Bull principle Horner is adamant Australian Ricciardo will commit to fresh terms with his current outfit.

"I think Daniel’s happy in the [Red Bull] environment," Horner told Formula1.com.

"If we can give him a car like we did [in China], why would he want to be anywhere else?"

Given Ricciardo's massive wage demands, it should be a very interesting off season to see where the Australian ends up by next season.
