WWE’s attempts at trying to have to fans finally embrace Roman Reigns as the face of the company have been rebuffed time and time again.
Although they have been trying for years now, it’s only recently during his Universal Championship feud with Brock Lesnar that they’ve really turned it up a notch to try and make The Big Dog a star they can’t help but love.
REIGNS VS LESNAR
Obviously, it hasn’t gone to plan. Heading into WrestleMania 34, the WWE’s plan was to portray Reigns as the underdog while making The Beast the villain. This is why we got those promos from Reigns along with the fact that everyone knew Lesnar was pursuing a return to the UFC, suggesting that he simply didn’t care about the fans or the company.
That wasn’t enough, as Reigns was still mercilessly booed out of New Orleans after failing to dethrone Lesnar inside of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome at WrestleMania 34.
While the company has tried to continue to make fans feel sorry for Reigns - which is why the cameras stayed in him after his loss to Lesnar - he’s set for a rematch on Friday, April 27 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia at the Greatest Royal Rumble event.
Everyone is thinking that the reason this match is taking place in the Middle East is because the WWE is able to have Reigns win in front of a more receptive crowd. However, one observant fan has noticed that WWE perhaps went to new lengths on Monday Night RAW this week to show that the former Shield member does have die-hard supporters.
Twitter user Ryan Sangolia has shared a short clip of one interesting section during Paul Heyman’s promo alongside Lesnar to hype up the upcoming steel cage match, before Reigns made his way to the ring.
As you’ll be able to see in the tweet, Heyman and Lesnar are stopped in their tracks as they suddenly look towards the front row to find a handful of fans chanting ‘Roman’ - who suspiciously look like they’ve been planted there by the company, especially with the male in the cap looking a little hesitant.
It’s not a surprise if WWE did take this route in the effort to get this chant kicked off in the arena, as they’re notorious for handing out signs of their own as well as planting fans in the past to gain support for superstars they select.
