While Conor McGregor gets plenty of criticism for his lack of activity inside of the Octagon after last competing at UFC 205, Nate Diaz has been even more inactive than his Irish foe.

The Stockton fighter was last in action at UFC 202 where he lost in his rematch against the Notorious. Despite what he’s been saying in interviews, the assumption is that he is holding out for a lucrative trilogy with McGregor, despite UFC president Dana White repeatedly offering him fights.

INACTIVITY

The UFC’s lightweight division is arguably the most exciting right now. With Khabib Nurmagomedov now occupying the 155-pound throne, there are at least five fighters chasing him in the form of McGregor, Tony Ferguson, Kevin Lee, Dustin Poirier and Eddie Alvarez.

While Alvarez might not receive the next title shot, he did save a special call-out for long-time rival Diaz by telling him that he can’t afford to continue waiting around for McGregor, as he’d be better off taking the bout against The Underground King instead.

When speaking to ESNews, the former UFC lightweight king said: “Nate can come to the lightweight division and get it right here.

ALVAREZ

“I asked him why he kept looking at me like this. He kind of put his head down and said ‘you’re fighting my friend so f**k you.’ That’s when the UFC broke us up.

“He’s just angry I beat Gilbert...I beat his friend up in front of him. He was cageside and he still didn’t do s**t about it. So, if he wants to ever come back, he can come get this.

“He’s waiting for money, Conor has been arrested, he’s not going to be around the game for a while. If Nate wants it, I’m right here for him.”

If Alvarez is overlooked for a title fight against The Eagle - which looks likely right now - then enticing Diaz back to the Octagon could be a brilliant scrap.

Plus, Nate isn’t the only Diaz that could be returning, as rumours have suggested older brother Nick could be lined up as Michael Bisping’s opponent in his retirement fight.
