What more can you say about Mohamed Salah? The Egypt international has now scored a truly remarkable 43 goals for Liverpool this season - a genuinely extraordinary achievement from a player who cost just £34 million last summer.Salah now sits just four goals behind Ian Rush’s Liverpool record of 47 in a season following his brace against his former employers AS Roma on Tuesday evening. The 25-year-old broke the deadlock with a magnificent left-footed curler in the 36th minute and then doubled his tally shortly before half-time with a beautifully-composed finish past Roma’s goalkeeper Alisson Becker. This was a performance that Lionel Messi would have been proud of.Incredibly, Salah then provided two assists shortly after half-time for Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, who doubled his tally in the 68th minute to make it 5-0.Roma, who knocked Barcelona out in the quarter-finals, had been ripped apart by their former player. Liverpool, meanwhile, surely now have one foot in the Champions League final following Tuesday night’s emphatic 5-2 victory (Edin Dzeko and Diego Perotti netted late consolation goals for the visitors) at Anfield.

Ravel Morrison's tweet about Salah sparks debate

Needless to say, Salah’s name was trending top of Twitter thanks to his masterclass - and an increasing number of football fans - including, surprisingly, the former Manchester United starlet Ravel Morrison - believe that Salah is now the frontrunner for the 2018 Ballon d’Or award.

Morrison, however, went one further: claiming that Salah is currently the best player on the planet.

The 25-year-old’s tweet sparked plenty of debate. While a few people agreed, most of the replies were from people saying he was talking nonsense.

Clearly, most people still believe that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are better than the Egyptian.

Salah could win the Ballon d'Or this year

But there’s no denying that Salah deserves to be spoken about in the same breath as football’s two extra-terrestrials right now.

And if Liverpool go on to win the Champions League then Salah will be the frontrunner for world football’s most prestigious individual accolade ahead of the World Cup finals in Russia.

Ronaldo and Messi have won every Ballon d’Or between them since 2008.

But Salah, whose odds of winning the award have tumbled following his performance in the semi-final first leg, could end the duopoly later this year.
