Mohamed Salah scored two brilliant goals in Liverpool's 5-2 Champions League victory over Roma on Tuesday night. The Egyptian winger, who famously flopped at Chelsea, is now a serious contender to win the 2018 Ballon d'Or.Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have won each of the last 10 Ballon d'Or's, winning five apiece since Kaka won it in 2007.Jurgen Klopp hailed the "fantastic" Salah after Tuesday's semi-final first leg but suggested the 25-year-old needs to do it over a longer period to be considered the best."He was outstanding - pretty much not to defend, to be honest," the Liverpool manager said."If you think he's the best in the world, write it or say it. He is in outstandingly good shape, in world-class shape, 100 per cent. That's good."To be the best in the world you need to do that over a longer period, I think. There are a few others who are not too bad. He is a fantastic player and I'm really happy to have him."

BT Sport panel on Salah

YouTuber Spencer FC was in the BT Sport studio on Tuesday night and had a question for each of the four retired England internationals.

"Is Salah the best player in the world right now"?

Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard think there is no one better than Salah - but Rio Ferdinand and Gary Lineker weren't quite so sure.

The Egyptian winger, who signed for £36.9m last summer, has already bagged 43 goals in his debut season on Merseyside.

Salah is closing in on Ian Rush's fabulous 47-goal campaign for Liverpool in 1983/84.

He's also equalled the Premier League record for most goals (31) in a single campaign and has three games left to better the record.

BBC pundit Ian Wright believes Salah "has a very good chance" of beating Messi and Ronaldo to the Ballon d'Or.

"Salah is in that conversation, of course he is," he said on The Debate.

"With the World Cup coming in, the form he is in you'd like to think he'll keep that for the World Cup.

"Obviously depending on what Liverpool do in the Champions League, if they do go on and win it, then you have to say when you look at Cristiano Ronaldo, he's saved much of his best work for the Champions League.

"He's (Ronaldo) won the Ballon d'Or a couple of times, and not just for those reasons but if Salah keeps on doing what he's doing, he's not only in the conversation, he's got a very good chance of winning it."
