"I think if Liverpool were playing out in my back garden, I wouldn't watch them. They're just drifting. Drifting nowhere."

Those were Roy Keane’s comments about Liverpool after they had beaten Maribor 3-0 in November in the Champions League.

How stupid does he look now?

Liverpool are just 90 minutes away from a Champions League final in Kyiv after beating Roma 5-2 in their semi-final first-leg.

Rather than having one foot in the final, Liverpool could have easily had both feet already in Ukraine.

At one point, they were 5-0 up and looked as though they could have scored more if they wanted to.

But as good as the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane were, the Roma defence were absolutely terrible.

At times, they looked as though they had completely given up and, despite knowing all about Salah, just gave him the time and space he needs.

And while Keane begrudgingly praised Liverpool’s display, he also absolutely destroyed the Roma defence.

“The Roma players gave up,” Keane claimed on ITV.

“After about an hour they downed tools. I think if I played like some of their defenders did in that game last night, I would consider retiring from football.

“I really would. Shameful. The fact is, they scored two late goals that obviously covered the cracks a little bit.

“Again, we can slag Roma off but you still need to take advantage of that and Liverpool did and punished them - and rightly so.”

Yeah, Keane wasn’t impressed.

But the fact is, the tie isn’t over.

Roma beat Barcelona 3-0 in the second-leg of the quarter-final to progress and the same scoreline would see them progress through to the final.

That’s if their defenders haven’t retired by next week due to their performances.
