Every Mohamed Salah goal must be a dagger into the side of Chelsea right now.

When they offloaded the Egyptian winger in the summer of 2016 it looked a shrewd decision and a timely ending to an unsuccessful foray into the Premier League. His talent was clear to see, but Salah just couldn't quite cut it at the top.

Fast forward less than two years, though, and the mercurial 25-year-old is being tipped for Ballon d'Or contention.

Liverpool have seriously pulled it out the bag in taking a risk on the forward and their investment of £38.5 million now looks like absolute pittance.

Despite impressing with AS Roma, many believed his failed spell with Chelsea was evidence that he would flop once again on English shores. No less than 43 goals and 11 assists says otherwise.

Salah's doomed Chelsea spell

As a result, it must be wondered how Salah's career would have panned out if Chelsea gave him more of a chance.

Perhaps he could have been an attacking version of Victor Moses - struggling upon a move to Stamford Bridge and returning later down the line with success after a few loans away.

Or, perhaps, greater game-time at west London was all it would have taken for the Egyptian to stride into to the electric form with which we've now become accustomed.

Salah's breakout performance v Arsenal

All speculation of course but after Salah's remarkable performance against Roma in mid-week, Chelsea fans have been given a reminder of their former player with a recent YouTube upload.

User 'TIGGZ' took the due hype around Salah at the moment as his opportunity to post a video of the winger's individual highlights during his breakout game for Chelsea, against Arsenal in 2014.

Before the 6-0 thrashing, he was only handed 13 minutes of action yet his 23 minutes versus the Gunners showed plenty of his talent.

Check out the video below:

Aside from hammering the final nail into Arsenal's coffin with a slick goal that day, Salah was ripping the north London club apart at every opportunity. His mercurial dribbling, skills and link-up play is abundantly apparent.

In fact, it was enough to get a few Chelsea supporters emotional - take a look at the response:

It's almost as if they let Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku leave prematurely, too...

Of course, at the time, it appeared more than sensible for Jose Mourinho to cut ties and while a resurgence was certainly possible, nobody could have predicted his achievements at Liverpool.

The early signs are certainly there in that Arsenal performance, however. Only time will tell whether Chelsea not only conceded a future PFA Player of the Year Award winner but a Ballon d'Or champion, too.
