It remains to be seen just how active Barcelona will be in the summer transfer window.

The Blaugrana are going to cruise to the La Liga title and have also won the Copa del Rey, so Ernesto Valverde won’t be planning an entire overhaul of his squad.

But the defeat to Roma in the quarter-final of the Champions League, along with the impending exit of Andres Iniesta, suggests improvements are required.

Philippe Coutinho will fill Iniesta’s place in the starting line-up but a replacement for Samuel Umtiti, who has been linked with a move away from the Camp Nou just two years after arriving, may be required.

There is a chance that Barcelona could promote some players from their youth teams to the senior squad - Carles Alena and Jose Arnaiz have been mentioned as possible graduates - but to keep up in the modern era, spending is a requirement.

The departure of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain has ensured that Barcelona aren’t strapped for cash following the signings of Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele.

And there are rumours that a huge name could join Lionel Messi and co. in the summer.

WhatsApp messages

Antoine Griezmann was linked with a move to Manchester United in 2017 but decided to stay at Atletico Madrid owing to the club’s transfer ban.

But that loyalty could be put to one side when the transfer window opens, with rumours claiming Barcelona are keen to sign him in an £88 million switch.

And according to Spanish outlet Sport, certain heavyweights in the Barcelona dressing room have tried to sway Griezmann by messaging him on WhatsApp: “Come to Barça!”

Unlike last summer, when the France international admitted that Man United had a six out of 10 chance of signing him, Griezmann isn’t ready to comment on the rumours to Barcelona.

“I don't know where you get this information, but it is false,” he told Telefoot earlier in the month.

That said, the 27-year-old, who has scored 26 goals this season, wants his future decided before traveling to Russia for the World Cup.

“I want to be free and think only about the French team,” he added.

“I would like my future to be settled before the World Cup, otherwise, afterwards, we will have questions to the right and the left. I will continue as I am now, giving everything to the club.”
