Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain just doesn't have any luck when it comes to the World Cup.Having made the squad for the tournament in Brazil four years ago, an injury sustained in a warm-up game against Ecuador forced him to miss the three group games against Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica. Those would've been his first appearances in the global event, and it looked as though it would be form not injury that denied him this time around in Russia. The midfielder was omitted from Gareth Southgate's squad after struggling for form and game time following his £35m move from Arsenal in August. However, Oxlade-Chamberlain's displays improved massively, and he has become an integral part of Jurgen Klopp's first-team at Anfield. He scored a thunderous goal in the 3-0 Champions League defeat of Manchester City last month, which helped them on their way to their first semi-final in the competition for a decade.Unfortunately, his World Cup curse struck again in the Reds' 5-2 victory over AS Roma on Tuesday night.Oxlade-Chamberlain was carried off on a stretcher after completing a slide tackle on Aleksandar Kolarov in the first half of the match, and it didn't look good. And he confirmed Liverpool fans' worst fears with a message on Twitter a day later.

It's rotten luck for the Englishman picking up knee ligament damage, as he was really beginning to find his stride, and should Klopp's team hold onto their advantage in Rome next week, he'll obviously be absent for the Champions League final.

He is in safe hands at Liverpool and under the German however, who was speaking about the injury in his press-conference before the visit of struggling Stoke City.

Typically, Klopp was in top form and revealed the brilliant comment he made to Oxlade-Chamberlain when he was told the severity of the problem.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager compared the injury to like being in prison, but said that they'll be waiting for him like a good wife would.

"I have no words. I cannot believe for this wonderful player and person, in such a positive situation, that this happened," Klopp commented.

"It is such a shame. It is not fair. But this is how life is sometimes.

"If you get a lemon, make lemonade. That is what we must do. Alex is a positive person and he will be back.

"We will wait for him like a good wife when her man is in prison."

That comment really is Klopp all over, and it's sure to have raised a few smiles in the dressing room when the players learned of it.

Knee ligament damage is such a difficult injury to come back from, particularly for pacey players like Oxlade-Chamberlain, but hopefully he can make a full recovery.

As he is still only 24, there's still plenty of time for him to make his mark in major tournaments for England and Liverpool.
