After the typical histrionics on day one of the 2018 NFL draft, day two was comparatively pedestrian, at least on the quarterback front. Still, there were plenty of surprise selections, trades, and players sliding down the board on another entertaining night inside AT&T stadium in Dallas. Here's a look at some of the major talking points from rounds two and three:

Quiet on the quarterbacks...

After a record breaking first round in which five signal callers came off the board for the first time since 1999 and four were selected inside the top ten for the first time ever, teams seemed almost perturbed by the notion of delving into the quarterback market on day two.

There was no heir-apparent to Tom Brady taken by the Patriots, despite strong links to WSU's Luke Falk, and only ONE QB was selected on the night.  Even so, we had to wait until the 12th pick of round three for the Steelers to trade up three spots with the Seahawks and select Oklahoma State standout Mason Rudolph.

Rudolph was projected as a potential first round pick so Pittsburgh got excellent value in selecting a potential successor to Ben Roethlisberger in the middle of round three.

There was no real word as to why teams shied away from taking the likes of Falk and Richmond QB Kyle Lauletta on day two, but it appears as though the value at the position is being viewed as very top heavy around the league. Realistically, spending a day two pick on any of the remaining quarterbacks may have been over drafting them at the expense of taking a better pure football player at another position who could contribute from day one as a pro.

Teams are likely just waiting until there is value to be had and that will certainly come on day three, so expect a run on guys like Falk, Lauletta, Mike White and Chase Litton towards the back end of round four.

Guice's big slide

LSU running back Derrius Guice had a first round grade on his head, but experienced a major slide down the board that lasted well into day two.

The bruising runner eventually landed with the Redskins at number 59 but there are serious questions circling about his character. Hence, teams avoided him deep into the second round despite his prodigious talent and despite being the second ranked rusher on many analysts' big boards, he ended up being the sixth back selected.

Several on-air analysts suggested teams had heard about previously undisclosed incidents involving the former Tigers star during his time in Baton Rouge, but next to no details were released making Guice's fall all the more mysterious.

The Redskins got themselves a potential Pro Bowl level talent, but this pick could look seriously ill-advised down the line should the apparent concerns regarding his character come to fruition.

The polarising young rusher seems focused and ready to go though...

Dallas' Dez replacement

Jerry Jones finally pulled the trigger on a receiver in round three as the Cowboys snagged Colorado State standout Michael Gallup with the 81st overall pick.

The highly productive 2017 second-team All-American put up 2,685 receiving yards and 21 TDs in two seasons at Colorado State, and was a Biletnikoff Award Finalist as one of the nation's top receivers last season.

The 6'1, 205lb wideout ran a solid 4.51 forty at the combine and has a good combination of size and speed with tough-catch ability on the sidelines. He's got strong hands and will gain consistent yards after the catch. Whilst he doesn't pose Bryant's size, he can separate from defensive backs and scouts think he will continue to improve.

Gallup fills a gaping need in Scott Linehan's offense, could find a big role in Dallas' remodelled passing attack in 2018.

Day three of the 2018 NFL draft kicks off Saturday at 5pm UK time.
