Qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix very nearly saw a nasty collision between Pierre Gasly and Brendon Hartley. The two Toro Rosso team-mates managed to avoid a potential crash when Gasly swerved. There could have been a repeat of the duo's incident in the Chinese Grand Prix but mercifully, that didn't happen as this could have been much worse.Hartley had suffered a puncture on his front-left tyre, which may explain why he was going so slowly.Fortunately, Gasly quickly navigated around him, admitting the near miss was the "scariest moment of his career".Check out the footage of the incident below - it really was close:

"It was really scary, the scariest moment of my career," said Gasly, via Motorsport.com.

"I didn't know if he was going left or going right.

"I don't know what happened to Brendon, he slowed down massively. I was at 320kph and, honestly… he almost stopped, I tried to avoid him and I was sure I was going to crash.

"I could already see myself in the air, I don't know how I avoided it, but it was a pretty scary moment.

"Maybe if he has a puncture it doesn't help him. I am sure he didn't do it on purpose, but he was on the line, I wasn't sure if he was going to go on line or not."

While the duo were unaffected, the same can't be said of Max Verstappen who - shock, horror - was involved in another collision in his first practice.

If the qualifying is to be revealing of how the Grand Prix is to turn out, then there was more positive news for Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas, who finished first ahead of Chinese GP winner Daniel Ricciardo.
